Native to the warmer parts of Southern Africa, the mopane moth (Gonimbrasia belina) falls under the large emperor moth species. Its caterpillar feeds almost exclusively on the leaves of the mopane tree, the same tree that gives both moth and worm their name and has been an important wild food source in the region for generations.
